Legalconsumer.com has just updated its Means Test Calculator to incorporate the latest expense deductions announced by the justice department that take effect May 15, 2023
The new numbers affect Part 2 of the means test, where above-median-income debtors are asked to list their monthly expenses. Some of those expenses are “actual” expenses, while others are based on “allowances” based on where state or county where the person lives.
These expense standards, updated every May, are based on collection standards used by the IRS when deciding whether to pursue delinquent tax debts.
You can find your numbers by looking through these tables, or — a simpler way — go to the Means Test Calculator page and enter your Zip Code and Household Size, and the appropriate numbers will be entered into the form.
